Bhopal: TheBhopal Crime Branchon Wednesday arrested two allegeddrug peddlersand seized 11.05 kg of ganja (cannabis) valued at Rs1.2 lakh, along with an SUV used in the operation. The arrests were made under theNDPS Act, and investigations are ongoing to uncover their network and modus operandi.
Additional DCP Shailendra Singh Chouhan said that acting on directives of senior police officers to crack down on drug-related offences, a special team led by inspector Ashok Maravi intercepted the accused following a tip-off. The suspects, identified as Prakash Mahaldar, 32, and Sanjay Vishwas, 48, both from Malkangiri in Odisha, were caught near Agarawal Hotel in TRT Govindpura, Bhopal.
Chouhan said that police received credible information that the duo was attempting to sell ganja in a grey SUV. Upon reaching the location, the Crime Branch team apprehended the two and conducted a search of the vehicle. This search yielded nine packets of ganja weighing 6.37 kg in a backpack owned by Vishwas and eight packets weighing 5.14 kg in another backpack belonging to Mahaldar.
The confiscated cannabis was tested and confirmed to be genuine through standard identification methods. The total weight of the seized substance was 11.05 kilograms. Investigations revealed that the accused sourced the cannabis at low prices and planned to distribute it in small quantities across Bhopal. Following the arrests, the Crime Branch registered a case under the NDPS Act and produced the accused before the court. Both suspects, who have a background in driving and limited education, are now under further interrogation to trace the wider network associated with the illegal trade.
