COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Two people have been arrested following a weekend traffic stop, which Columbus police say led to the discovery of an illegal marijuana grow operation.

According to police, the incident happened Sunday in the area of Illges Road and Carver Street. Marcus Mathis, 54, was pulled over for a stop sign violation in the area, with Megan Moore, 47, as a passenger in the vehicle. During the traffic stop, officers conducted a search and reportedly found a large marijuana plant inside the car.

Police reported that the searches resulted in the confiscation of additional marijuana plants weighing 532.51 grams with an estimated street value of $5,325.10, along with marijuana seeds, grow lights, scales and baggies, potting soil, pipes and bongs, temperature-controlled refrigerators and two firearms.

Both Mathis and Moore were taken into custody and face multiple charges.

Mathis is charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of drug-related objects, and a stop sign violation.

Moore is charged with manufacturing marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of drug-related objects. The investigation is ongoing.

Police noted that the investigation into this case is still ongoing.
