OPELOUSAS, La. — Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics detectives, together with Lafayette Police Department narcotics detectives and St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, conducted a narcotics operation at 1193 LA 749 near Opelousas on February 17.
A search warrant was executed whereupon Anthony Minor Jr., 20, and Curtis Fields Jr., 24, both of Opelousas, were taken into custody.
Jail records show Minor lived at the address. He is charged with possession of a machine gun, possession of a firearm in the presence of CDS, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and conspiracy to distribute Schedule I (marijuana).
Fields is charged with possession of a machine gun, illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, and conspiracy to distribute Schedule I (marijuana).
Fields and Minor concealed themselves in a closet and were in possession of an illegally modified Glock 9mm pistol equipped with a “Glock Switch,” rendering it capable of fully automatic fire. There was a high-capacity drum magazine, a high-capacity extended magazine, and a standard magazine, all completely loaded with ammunition.
The search of the residence uncovered 1,081 grams of marijuana with a street value of over $ 21,000.
The combination of the illegal drugs and the serious firepower of an illegal machine gun makes this offense even more reprehensible.
We will continue to use every legal method and resource at our disposal to combat this social scourge.
