MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Wisconsin’s elected officials and tribal government leaders gathered in the Capitol Tuesday to launch a new campaign with hopes to legalize medical marijuana in the Badger State.

The Indigenous Cannabis Industry Association, a non-profit national cannabis advocacy group based in Wisconsin, is behind the campaign called Wisconsin Wellness.

The campaign will use films, educational tools and advertising across the state to teach people about the benefits of medical marijuana.

State Senator Melissa Agard called cannabis legalization a uniquely popular issue.

“This is something that extends beyond partisan politics,” Sen. Agard said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re in urban or rural areas of the state of Wisconsin. People want this done.”

Supporters say that medical cannabis is effective for treating chronic pain and other conditions without the dangerous side effect of opioids.
