LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT/KARK) – One Arkansas group working to expand medical marijuana access across the state recently submitted triple the amount of necessary signatures needed.

According to our content partner KARK, the group Arkansans for Patient Access needed around 13,000 signatures for an amendment that would “broaden medical qualifications to include whatever a healthcare practitioner feels is debilitating for a patient and could be treated with marijuana,” KARK reported. However, the group got 39,000 signatures.

“There are 18,000 of those signatures that are under scrutiny for the Supreme Court to be ruling on, besides that we’ve still got 20,000 signatures and we only needed 13,000 so we should be good,” APA Spokesperson Melissa Fults said.

The Secretary of State’s office is processing signatures turned in and has 30 days to complete the signature verification process.
