EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — A man is facing drug possession and dealing charges in Evansville after police say they caught him with pills and synthetic marijuana.

Officers were called to a local shelter on Sunday afternoon to investigate a report of a man who had been banned from the property, but had come back.

Police say they arrived and found the man, identified as 31-year-old Jonathan Stewart.

EPD says Stewart was taken into custody for trespassing, and that drugs were found on him during a search. They say they found 87 pills in a bottle labled “Gabapentin,” as well as several Meloxicam pills wrapped in plastic.

Officers say they also found some synthetic marijuana on Stewart.

According to EPD, Steward claimed he didn’t know what the pills were, and that he had simply picked them up off the sidewalk. When asked about the other pills, EPD says Stewart claimed to have found them. They say he also claimed to not know what the synthetic marijuana was.

When taken to the jail, EPD says officers also found a pink grinder in Stewart’s backpack, which had green residue inside.

Stewart was arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on various charges for drug paraphernalia, possession, and dealing, as well as trespassing.
