LANSING — An employee of a local marijuana dispensary was shot in the back during a robbery and police are seeking help locating those responsible.

Lansing police said they were called out around 8:15 p.m. Friday to the Star Budz Canna Cafe at 3420 Ridge Road in response to a report of an armed robbery.

While the man was trying to get information from the accused, who he described as appearing intoxicated, smelling of alcohol and slurring her words, she reportedly got back in her vehicle and drove into the man, knocking him to the ground.

Officers learned two masked gunmen entered the business and attempted to restrain an employee resulting in a struggle, according to police.

“During this struggle, the employee was shot once in the back, resulting in a non-life-threatening injury,” police said.

The separate shooting deaths last week of a man and woman in Gary have been ruled homicides, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The gunmen then began to collect merchandise from a backroom at the business at which time the employee fled the scene.

The men, who are being sought by police, are described as black, wearing hooded sweatshirts, black and gray pants, and black shoes.
