HELPER, Emery County — Two Texans were arrested Friday with almost 90 pounds of marijuana at a DUI checkpoint on U.S. 6, around 25 miles south of Price, according to police.

Taylor Tarazon, 41, and Annette Bonner, 46, pulled up to the checkpoint about 6 p.m., when Helper police officer Lara Olson said she smelled marijuana coming from the car, according to a police booking affidavit.

“They both adamantly stated I was not allowed to search the vehicle,” Olson wrote.

“Personal use marijuana products” were likely the source of the smell, that led police to 84 vacuum sealed 1-pound bags of marijuana, 2.5 pounds of green bricks suspected to be hash, and $10,000 cash in the back seat and trunk, according to the affidavit.

Tarazon and Bonner were booked into Emery County Jail for investigation of money laundering, distribution of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
