SHELDON—An 18-year-old Sheldon resident was arrested about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, on charges of first-offense operating while under the influence, first-offense possession of a controlled substance — marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The arrest of Angel Uriel Ruiz Verduzko stemmed from the stop of a 2005 Honda Pilot for failing to yield the right of way and an equipment violation on 16th Street near Washington Avenue in Sheldon, according to the Sheldon Police Department.

Ruiz Verduzko had bloodshot/watery eyes, impaired balance and the odors of an alcoholic beverage and marijuana and failed field sobriety tests.

The odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle, and a one-hitter, marijuana plant material and a THC vaping pen were found in a search of the vehicle, according to the incident report.
