PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (7News) — A Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) assistant coach has been charged after allegedly discussing plans to smoke marijuana with a student, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

The agency saidDemetrius Amerson, aHayfield Secondary School football team assistant coach, was involved in a conversation on Sept. 13 with a 16-year-oldboy about meeting up to smoke marijuana.

Although the meeting did not take place, authorities said they were notified about the communication on Sept. 19.

Police saidAmerson turned himselfin the next day and wascharged with one count of misdemeanor contributing to delinquency of a minor.

He was released on a court summons.

7News reached out to school officials for comment and a spokesperson saidAmerson’s contract has been canceled, and he will not be returning to FCPS.
