As of Tuesday, October 1st The Georgia Hemp Farming Act has taken effect. This Act makes it illegal for individuals under the age of 21 to buy, sell, or possess consumable hemp products. The law also requires retailers, and wholesalers of consumable hemp who operate in Georgia to have a license.

This response to the legalization of hemp products by congress in 2018, now gives authorities a means to apply the law “Through … traffic enforcement across Georgia” said Colonel William W. Hitchens, III, from Department of Public Safety Commissioner. Hitchens along with Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper worked closely with Governor Kemp to bring about this law.

In a statement from the Governor’s office, Kemp made it known that these new restrictions will be strongly enforced throughout the state to protect the safety of young Georgians. Law enforcement officers have been reminded of the updated restrictions as well.

Kemp also stated that “Consumable hemp products are dangerous to minors and unregulated hemp products are a danger to all Georgians. Knowing these dangers, I want consumers to be aware of these new laws…”
