MIDDLEBURG—A Snyder County woman is facing a preliminary hearing next month on charges she gave a co-worker at the state-run Selinsgrove Center a marijuana-laced chocolate bar that made her sick.

State police said in an affidavit that Wanda Jean Frederick, 57, of Selinsgrove, admitted providing the chocolate bar that made Stephanie Hilary Embick so ill she required treatment at Geisinger Medical Center.

Embick told investigators that Frederick on Aug. 11 offered her strawberries and chocolate. She accepted a chocolate bar and several hours later became very ill, the affidavit states.

Seized during a consensual search of Frederick’s car were three chocolate bars suspected to contain marijuana, a grinder and glass smoking pipe, police said. She admitted not having a medical marijuana card, they said.

Embick told investigators she was not told when offered the chocolate bar that it was laced with marijuana.

Frederick is no longer employed at the intermediate center just outside the borough but a spokesperson for the Department of Human Services would not provide any other information.

Frederick has been sent a summons to appear for a Nov. 4 preliminary hearing before District Judge Scott Zeigler near Middleburg.

She is charged with disorderly conduct by causing a physically offensive condition, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident occurred at the Selinsgrove Center in Snyder County.  Read More
