AZALEA, Ore. – An illegal marijuana grow investigation in Douglas County netted the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of multiple drugs and guns on Tuesday, according to the Douglas County Interagency Narcotics Team.

Douglas County authorities said DINT detectives and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant that was executed on October 8 in the 700 block of Yeust Road in Azalea as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged illegal marijuana grow. More than 1,200 marijuana plants, about 20 pounds of processed marijuana, and nine pounds of marijuana extract were found by investigators at the location along with such illegal drugs as suspected psilocybin mushrooms, Xanax, oxycodone, tramadol, and anabolic steroids in addition to other evidence of illegal marijuana production and distribution, DINT officials said. Investigators said that the involved suspects appeared to have been illegally pumping water from a nearby creek as a water source for the marijuana production and numerous firearms were also found strategically placed around the location.

Three suspects in total, all of whom are from Azalea, were arrested or cited for drug-related charges, authorities said. DINT officials said that Michael Long, 46, and Daniel Roy, 59, both face charges of unlawful possession, manufacture, and delivery of marijuana, while Angel Ortega, 24, was cited and released from the scene for unlawful possession and manufacture of marijuana.

Douglas County Jail records show that Long is in custody as of October 9, 2024, while Roy has since been released from custody.
