MARYSVILLE – The public gets to weigh in on the matter of marijuana sales in the city as the Marysville City Council will conduct a second reading and public hearing on an ordinance that would ban the cultivation, processing, and sales of marijuana in the city limits at Monday’s regular meeting in Council Chambers, 209 S. Main St., at 7 p.m.

The Council will also be holding final votes on six ordinances Monday. Three are annexation ordinances: The 243 acres known as Marysville East Section III, 15.1 acres in the Marysville East, Section I project, and 6.5 acres adjacent to the Marysville South project. The Council will also vote on an ordinance that will rezone six parcels in the Marysville East, Section III development from U-1 (Township Zoning) to Planned Unit Development (PUD) and another ordinance which will amend the zoning language in the PUD for Marysville East Section I. The last ordinance up for a final vote will amend the facility costs and city fees regarding EMS billing.

In addition to the ordinance regarding the sale of marijuana in the city limits, two other ordinances will have a second reading and public hearing Monday, the first will be to approve the execution of a Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) agreement between the city administration and Opus Development Company for a 253,000 square-foot Class A industrial manufacturing, technology, and/or general office, and distribution building along Innovation Way, a project that will represent a $20,310,000 investment and create 80 full-time jobs. The ordinance will also grant a 10-year, 75% real property tax exemption to Opus Development. The second hearing will consider the Planning Commission’s recommendation to amend Chapter Eleven of the Zoning Code to update the guidelines, materials, windows and doors that may be used in the Historic Design Review District and Landmarks.

The Council will also have one reading of a resolution Monday which will reaffirm the city’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and incorporate this language into the rules of council.

Prior to the Marysville City Council meeting Monday, the Public Safety/Service Committee will convene at 6 p.m. in the Conference Room at City Hall.

On the agenda for the PSSC will be citizen comments, a discussion regarding zoning code amendments to consider zoning for dwellings, rooming houses, boarding houses, lodging houses or dormitories, as well as Fire Division, Police Division and Public Service Department updates.

The public is encouraged to attend both meetings.
