LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT/KARK) – A move from the Arkansas Supreme Court has seen mixed opinions from groups on both sides.

In a ruling on Monday, Oct. 21, the court said the popular name of Issue 3, the Medical Marijuana Amendment of 2024, was “misleading” and any vote for the measure that would expand medical marijuana access in the state would not be counted.

Family Council President Jerry Cox has been opposed to what the measure would have done but also how it would have been presented to voters.

“This measure was too confusing,” he told content partner KARK. “It went too far. It’s too extreme, all kinds of things about it. Bottom line is these measures need to be understandable for the average voter and this one was not that.

Arkansas for Patient Access Spokesperson Melissa Fults pushed back on the claim that the group intentionally left out information for voters on the ballots.

“We’re supposed to be ‘regnat populus,’ the people rule,” she said. “But they’re making absolutely sure that the people do not have a voice, and it’s heartbreaking that politics are destroying patients’ chances for a better life.”
