Students at Iberia Middle School in New Iberia received medical attention after eating THC-laced gummies, according to a school district statement.

The Iberia Parish School District confirmed the incident happened Monday as the school day was beginning. Officials said one student gave the marijuana-laced edibles to several other students. The child is facing disciplinary action from the school.

As soon as students began exhibiting symptoms, parents were contacted, according to the district statement.

“My baby was on a stretcher, the ambulance stretcher. She wasn’t the only one, baby. They hauled the lot of them out of here,” Quandisha Michael told KLFY.

The school district said it requested assistance from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office in addition to Acadian Ambulance.

“We want to assure you that the incident in question was thoroughly investigated, and the parents of the students involved were immediately contacted,” the school district said in its statement. “”In light of this event, we encourage you to have conversations with your children about the potential dangers of them accepting food or candy from their peers. it’s important for them to understand that not everything that looks like candy is safe to consume.”
