ATHENS, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – An investigation into a drug distribution network led to the discovery of a large amount of marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash in Athens-Clarke County.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) says on Oct. 31, the Northeast Georgia Regional Drug Task Force, with assistance from the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, got a tip about a possible drug distribution network at an apartment on the 100 block of Westpark Drive.

After an investigation, police searched the apartment of 43-year-old Cedric Maurice Burton, where they seized 31 pounds of vacuum-sealed marijuana, $16,000 in cash, drug packaging materials and a pistol, the department says.

Burton was arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to ACCPD.
