BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – In the 2024 election, voters in 15 South Central Kentucky counties and cities were tasked with deciding whether or not to allow medicinal cannabis businesses to operate in their areas. The question was met with resounding “yeses.”

In the spring of 2023, Governor Andy Beshear signed Senate Bill 47, which legalized medical cannabis in the Commonwealth starting on Jan. 1, 2025. It was then left up to local governments to opt in or out of the program.

In South Central Kentucky, the question appeared on ballots in Butler, Edmonson, Grayson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe and Muhlenberg counties. Cities within those counties that also faced the decision include Adairville, Auburn, Burkesville, Greensburg, Horse Cave and Munfordville. All 15 areas voted to participate in the program.

Other local governments had previously made decisions on the measure. Warren County opted into the program, while Allen County opted out.
