CINCINNATI (WKRC) – As Kentucky prepares to launch its medical marijuana program, Governor Andy Beshear announced that products are unlikely to be available on January 1, the official start date.
The state legislature approved medical cannabis for a list of qualifying medical conditions.
In the coming weeks, the state plans to introduce a new website that will provide a list of certified doctors and nurses authorized to prescribe medical marijuana. The site will eventually include the locations of dispensaries.
“Our goal is to make it very friendly because those that are seeking this help are already going through a lot. They have serious medical conditions, which is why this program is so important,” said Beshear. “Just through a search on our website, they are going to be able to find the names and locations of the medical professionals that they can go and see, and the names and locations of the closest dispensaries to them.”
A total of 48 dispensaries will be awarded licenses later this month or in December through a lottery system.
