Medical marijuana dispensary lottery: 4 licenses awarded in Hardin County
The first round of medical marijuana dispensary license lotteries for Kentucky was held on Monday. Some were awarded in the WLKY region, but all to one county.While Louisville won’t be drawn until December, 12 other counties nearby were part of the first lottery.The state was divided into 11 regions for dispensaries, with 48 licenses spread across the Commonwealth.Region 9, the Lincoln Trail, is composed of Adair, Breckinridge, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Hart, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Taylor and Washington.In that region, four LLCs were picked from a pool of 320 approved applicants.All four came out of Hardin County. According to Sam Flynn, executive director, Office of Medical Cannabis, said when multiple licenses to go one county, only the first chosen will get to stay there. The others will have to go to another county in the region that allows operations.”We will ensure that there’s that geographic spread and access points … throughout the region,” Flynn said.The next lottery will be held Dec. 16 for the Kentuckiana region, which includes Jefferson, Bullitt, Henry, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble counties.That’s also when the Lexington region will be drawn.For a more in-depth look at the region map and how the lottery works, click here.
