WLKY MADELINE CARTER EXPLAINS HOW THEY WERE PICKED AND WHERE THOSE LOCAL DISPENSARIES MAY BE LOCATED. MADELINE. YEAH, RICK AND VICKI. TODAY’S LOTTERY WAS FOR NINE OF 11 REGIONS ACROSS THE STATE. THE TWO BIGGEST REGIONS, THOUGH, WHICH INCLUDE LOUISVILLE AND LEXINGTON, WILL BE PICKED NEXT MONTH. 36 KENTUCKY BASED COMPANIES WERE SELECTED IN TODAY’S DRAWING AT THE KENTUCKY LOTTERY CORPORATION. FOUR COMPANIES IN THE LINCOLN TRAIL REGION WERE AMONG THOSE AWARDED DISPENSARY LICENSES. THAT REGION INCLUDES HARDIN, NELSON AND MEADE COUNTIES. OUT OF NEARLY 320 APPLICANTS IN THAT REGION, ALL FOUR RANDOMLY SELECTED IN THE LOTTERY HAPPENED TO BE BASED IN HARDIN COUNTY, BUT ONLY ONE IS ALLOWED TO OPERATE THERE. SO THE THREE OTHERS, THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE TO OPERATE IN A DIFFERENT COUNTY IN THE REGION THAT ALLOWS MEDICAL CANNABIS. AND SO WE WILL ENSURE THAT THERE’S THAT GEOGRAPHIC SPREAD AND ACCESS POINTS. AGAIN, THROUGHOUT THE THE THAT REGION. NOW WITH RESPECT TO TO MOVING FORWARD, WE’LL OF COURSE MONITOR THE PROGRAM IN EVERY REGION TO ENSURE THAT THERE’S ACCESS POINTS EVERYWHERE THROUGHOUT THE COMMONWEALTH. AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE HAVE AGAIN, ACCESS AND THEY’RE NOT DRIVING MULTIPLE HOURS TO GET THEIR MEDICAL CANNABIS. NEXT MONTH’S MEDICAL CANNABIS LOTTERY WILL DETERMINE WHERE THE FIRST DISPENSARIES WILL BE LOCATED IN THE TWO REMAINING REGIONS. THOSE ARE KENTUCKIANA. THAT’S THE ONE SHOWN HERE IN RED, AND IT INCLUDES JEFFERSON COUNTY AND THE BLUE REGION. THAT’S THE BLUEGRASS REGION THAT INCLUDES FAYETTE COUNTY, THE KENTUCKIANA REGION ALSO INCLUDES OLDHAM, BULLITT, SPENCER, SHELBY, HENRY, AND TRIMBLE COUNTIES. NOW JEFFERSON AND FAYETTE COUNTIES. The first round of medical marijuana dispensary license lotteries for Kentucky was held on Monday. Some were awarded in the WLKY region, but all to one county.While Louisville won’t be drawn until December, 12 other counties nearby were part of the first lottery.The state was divided into 11 regions for dispensaries, with 48 licenses spread across the Commonwealth.Region 9, the Lincoln Trail, is composed of Adair, Breckinridge, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Hart, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Taylor and Washington.In that region, four LLCs were picked from a pool of 320 approved applicants.All four came out of Hardin County.
