The illegal drugs included approximately 13.5kgs of herbal cannabis, worth €270,000; over 1kg of amphetamine, worth €15,000; and 200g of cocaine worth €14,000.

The detections, “made as a result of risk profiling” took place in Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare.

Various other drugs, with a combined value of approximately €2,000, were seized and included 15mls of cannabis oil, 19.8g cannabis resin, 23g synthetic cannabinoids, 1.06kg THC edibles, six ecstasy tablets, 33.21g 4-Chloromethcatinone powder, 4g heroin, and 150 Alprazolam, Diazepam, Zolpidem and Zopiclone tablets.

They were discovered with the assistance of detector dogs Sam, Grace and Ciara, in parcels that originated in the USA, the United Kingdom, Canada, Thailand, Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Poland.

The parcels were destined for various addresses nationwide.

Separately, 11,660 cigarettes including Silk Cut, Marlboro, Super King and John Player, with an estimated value of €10,500 representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €8,300 were also seized.

As well as this, more than 193 litres of alcohol, comprising over 50 litres of spirits and approximately 143 litres of wine, of various brands, were discovered.

With an estimated value of €8,533, this represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €2,600.

Revenue say investigations into all these seizures are ongoing.

“These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

“If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.
