MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. — Following the Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis’s lottery drawing for 36 dispensaries across the state, 7 medical marijuana businesses are set to come to the West Kentucky area.

Though medical marijuana becomes legal in Kentucky on Jan. 1, 2025, Gov. Andy Beshear said the program likely won’t be fully operational by then. Still, patients can begin the process to get a cannabis card starting Dec. 1.

Patients can find practitioners authorized to issue written certifications recommending the use of medical cannabis to patients in Kentucky — along with their contact information, address, and a link for office directions — through the Kentucky Medical Cannabis Program’s Authorized Practitioner Directory, which can be found by clicking here.

According to the portal, visiting an authorized medical cannabis practitioner is the first step for patients to become cardholders in Kentucky and must be accomplished before a qualified patient may apply for a registry identification card through the program’s Patient and Caregiver Registry Portal.
