Snoop Dogg is not the only music star with a presence in cannabis retail. Rapper B. Real of legendary alternative rap group Cypress Hill founded a chain of cannabis stores called Dr. Greenthumb; and Raine Maida, lead singer and founder of alternative rock band Our Lady Peace, is co-founder of Canadian cannabis brand Loop/Pool.
Cannabis retailing goes digital
Cannabis remains illegal under U.S. federal law and is subject to regulations that can vary widely at the state and local level, making digital cannabis retailing a tricky proposition.
However, this has not stopped other businesses from launching digital commerce initiatives that involve cannabis. For example, Weedmaps, an Irvine, Calif.-based cannabis marketplace from WM Technologies that partners with NBA star Kevin Durant, offers an iOS mobile app which allows orders to be submitted directly with licensed Weedmaps retailers via a single, seamless, in-app experience.
In addition, Boston-area omnichannel cannabis retailer Redi operates an e-commerce site for in-store pickup and even lets partner cannabis product brands target customer via a retail media network. Another Boston-area company, Lantern, provides third-party delivery for medical and recreational cannabis dispensaries.
