Pune: A woman was arrested by the Crime Branch Unit IV of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police for selling marijuana stored in the storage compartment of her scooter. The incident took place in Mhatobanagar slum, near Dange Chowk to Datta Mandir Road, on Monday morning at around 9:45 AM.
The complaint in this case was lodged by Sub-Inspector Narayan Jadhav at Wakad Police Station. Following the complaint, the accused, identified as Geeta Mukesh Yadav (34), a resident of Mhatobanagar slum, was taken into custody.
The Crime Branch Unit 4 team and Wakad Police investigation team were on foot patrol when they received a tip-off about a woman selling marijuana by the roadside. Acting swiftly, the team reached Perfect Bakers and Sweets, where they noticed a woman standing suspiciously near a parked Honda Activa scooter.
Upon searching her vehicle, the police found 1,976 grams of marijuana worth ₹98,800 hidden in the scooter’s storage compartment. Additionally, they seized a mobile phone valued at ₹10,000 from the accused.
The investigation is currently being led by Sub-Inspector Atul Jadhav to uncover further details related to the case.
Recently, in October 2024, the Talegaon Dabhade police had seized 5 kilograms of marijuana valued at INR 2.5 lakh from a man allegedly attempting to sell the contraband along the road leading to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
The arrested individual has been identified as Ashfaquali Sajjad Ali Shaikh, a 40-year-old resident of New Gautam Nagar, located opposite Deonar Police Post, Beat No. 2, Govandi West.
