(WJAR) — Rhode Island cannabis regulators take action against two growing operations.
The state’s Department of Business Regulation issued a decision Friday denying the license renewal for cannabis cultivator Seaweed Pharms.
Regulators claim the marijuana growing company in Warwick failed to properly tag and/or track dozens of plants and thousands of grams of product, as required.
Seaweed Pharms owner Alex Hager told NBC10 Friday he disputes the allegations, “wholeheartedly, with evidence that the state’s ignored.”
Hager said he plans to appeal the decision.
He also told NBC 10 the business has been effectively unable to operate for more than a year, since regulators first made the allegations.
Meanwhile, Bayside Growers, also in Warwick, agreed to pay a $10,875 penalty to the state.
Regulators claim Bayside Growers did not properly test quality control samples of marijuana that workers took home.
State regulations allow cultivation employees to take quality control samples, but only a certain amount and only after the sample has been tested.
Bayside Growers declined comment to NBC10.
