MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEVV) — A crash that happened on Thursday in Madisonville led to one arrest after police say a driver admitted to smoking marijuana before the wreck happened.
Around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, officers say they responded to a crash in the area of West Noel Avenue and Hopewell Street in Madisonville.
Police say 26-year-old Brooke Murphy was involved in the wreck but didn’t need any medical attention, but that the other driver had to go to the ER for a broken wrist.
While investigating the wreck, police say they suspected Murphy was under the influence. They say she smelled like marijuana, and that the smell of marijuana was coming from her car.
Police say Murphy admitted to smoking marijuana about an hour before the crash happened, and turned over a bag of marijuana that she had hidden. They say she also admitted to taking a pain pill the night before.
MPD says Murphy told officers she didn’t have a driver’s license on her, and it was discovered she didn’t have insurance.
After being taken to the hospital for a blood draw, Murphy was booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
