Pritzker endorses hemp regulation bill
More than five years after Illinois began issuing permits for legal production of industrial hemp, Gov. JB Pritzker now favors legislation to bring the industry under tighter regulation. Pritzker said in the short time since both the state and federal governments legalized hemp production, a new industry has emerged in which chemicals are extracted from hemp plants to produce intoxicating and potentially dangerous products that are currently unregulated.
Power station being built for Mount Prospect data center; legislative hurdles linger
Mount Prospect officials say the table is being set for construction of a $2.5 billion data center on the former United Airlines headquarters site. Village Manager Michael Cassady said construction on a ComEd substation at Dempster Street and Linneman Road will provide power to the CloudHQ data center across the street once complete by June.
‘Luxury’ car condos could soon roll into Gilberts
Developers are getting closer to getting a green light from village board members to build a “luxury” car condominium complex with retail and clubhouse space in Gilberts. BeSpoke Motor Union describes the condos as a “country club for car enthusiasts” that provide a space for people to store luxury cars. The plan calls for 156 “highly customizable” units in 10 two-story buildings.
Owners of Al Capone’s former speakeasy embrace pot infusion; no plans to reopen
A co-owner of the former location of the now closed Al Capone’s Hideaway & Steakhouse said the property at 35W337 Riverside Drive, Saint Charles Township, is not a priority right now — but a cannabis infusion business is. “We’ve been in production for a year right now,” Jeremy Casiello said. “We supply all the dispensaries in Illinois with product.” Their infusion business, High 5ive Brands, is in a Batavia industrial park.
