SHELDON—Two Vermillion, SD, residents were arrested about 2:40 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, near Sheldon on charges of first-offense possession of a controlled substance — marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The arrest of 24-year-old Antony Daniel Cuezzi Pichilla and 21-year-old Emily Ann Strong stemmed from the stop of a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup for a registration violation on the Highway 60 expressway near the 270th Street intersection about five miles northeast of Sheldon, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The odor of marijuana was detected. Cuezzi Pichilla, the driver, and Strong, the passenger, initially denied having anything before Strong admitted to having a pipe in the back seat.
Marijuana, vape pens containing THC cannabis oil and several pieces of drug paraphernalia were found spread throughout the vehicle, according to the incident report.
Among the items found were a prescription bottle with Cuezzi Pichilla’s name on it and containing marijuana.
Strong told the trooper she smokes marijuana to relieve her anxiety and back pain.
Cuezzi Pichilla also was cited for operation without a registration card or plate and failure to provide proof of vehicle liability insurance.
