Gig economy delivery service DoorDash announced on Thursday that it would begin offering home delivery of cannabis products containing CBD and THC, the compound primarily associated with the classic marijuana “high.” The company will offer delivery of hemp-derived products including cannabis gummies, beverages and more, online cannabis news source Marijuana Moment reported on Thursday.

“With the growing demand for hemp-derived THC and CBD products, we’re excited to expand access to a wide selection of products consumers crave,” Jacob Morello, director, general manager of alcohol and emerging categories at DoorDash, said in a statement from the company. “As preferences evolve, DoorDash can now help eligible customers find new products to safely enjoy while they unwind and recharge in the new year.”

DoorDash is joining forces with companies including Total Wine & More, ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, and others to deliver products such as THC and CBD gummies, beverages, chocolates, mints and honey sticks, the five most popular products during a pilot phase for the new product category. Products will also be available from DashMart, a DoorDash store and fulfillment platform offering delivery services for local businesses.

“This expansion comes as a growing number of people seek new products to enjoy while they relax and decompress,’ the company noted. “According to a Harris Poll survey of U.S. adults aged 21-65, nearly 75% of those looking to de-stress in 2025 are considering incorporating THC/CBD products into their routine, with 75% also considering participating in Dry January this year.”

DoorDash App Has New Tab For Cannabis Products

Customers in states where delivery of hemp-derived cannabis products is available will now see a “CBD/THC” tab at the top of the DoorDash app. The company notes that like alcohol sales, it has established “multiple safeguards” to ensure customers ordering CBD and THC products are of legal age, including electronic identification verification. To comply with federal law, hemp products contain less than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis.

“To help consumers find exactly what they’re looking for, we’ve created an easily shoppable page with hemp-derived products, non-alcoholic beverages, and more so they can enjoy social sips and celebrations, or give their routine a much-needed refresh,” the company said.

DoorDash is celebrating the launch of its cannabis delivery services through a partnership with THC drink manufacturer Cann. The promotion, which is valid through January 31, offers $2 off a multipack purchase of Cann products from the DoorDash platform.

“Whether you’re embracing a fresh start to the new year or exploring new products to enjoy, DoorDash has you covered with a growing selection of hemp-derived products, non-alcoholic beverages, and snacks delivered right to your door,” the company wrote.

Cannabis Businesses React To DoorDash Delivery

Some executives in the cannabis industry welcomed DoorDash’s foray into home delivery of THC and CBD products. Adam Terry, CEO of hemp-derived THC beverage manufacturer Cantrip, says he “is excited about this next phase of growth in the hemp THC beverage.”

“By breaking into the new ecosystem of direct delivery with an unparalleled partner like DoorDash, more Americans can access safe, quality THC products than ever before,” Terry writes in an email. “Cantrip is proud to be one of the first hemp THC brands to ever launch on DashMart and we know that this addition to our partnerships will lead to the household name status we are building towards.

David Craig, chief marketing officer at Missouri-based Illicit Gardens, writes that his company is “excited to see DoorDash recognize the growing consumer demand for cannabis products.”

“Their entry makes it easier for customers to access high-quality products and is a step toward the normalization and mainstream acceptance of cannabis,” Craig notes in an email. “This is an exciting time for the cannabis industry, and we hope regulators are taking note to make it easier for businesses to thrive in the space.”

Others, however, do not see DoorDash’s launch of home delivery of cannabis products as an entirely positive development for the regulated cannabis industry. Mike Khemmoro, chief operating officer of Oklahoma licensed cannabis brand Mango Cannabis, notes that “hemp-derived THC and CBD products don’t operate under the same rigorous oversight as state-regulated cannabis businesses, and that’s a serious issue.”

“At Mango Cannabis, we’ve built our reputation on compliance, accountability, and ensuring our customers have access to safe, tested, and transparent products,’ he writes in an email. “The hemp market, on the other hand, operates in a much looser regulatory framework, creating gaps in consumer protection and product integrity.”

“When companies like DoorDash begin delivering hemp-derived products alongside your groceries, it blurs the lines of accountability,” Khemmoro continues. “Consumers may assume these products meet the same strict standards as state-regulated cannabis, but the reality is they don’t. Without mandatory testing, uniform labeling, or robust oversight, the risk of subpar or even unsafe products making their way to consumers grows exponentially.”

Chloe Kaleiokalani, CEO and co-founder of California licensed cannabis firm CAKE She Hits Different, says that “expanded access to consumers for products in the hemp category is something to celebrate.”

“However, it is important to understand the issues we continue to face in the regulated cannabis industry with unrealistic barriers to reach our consumers directly,” she writes. “We need to see these opportunities expand beyond hemp products as cannabis and hemp are ultimately the same plant regardless of legislative perception.”

DoorDash’s delve into cannabis products home delivery comes at a time when several states including Illinois are considering new regulations on intoxicating hemp products. A ban of such products was recently put on hold by court action in New Jersey, while in California, new emergency regulations on consumable hemp products went into effect in September.
