Due to federal regulations, people with legal marijuana cards in Kentucky will not be able to legally purchase a firearm.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear pushed for changes to federal marijuana laws on Thursday.

It comes as the state navigates the legalization of medical marijuana.

Due to federal regulations, people with legal marijuana cards in Kentucky will not be able to legally purchase a firearm.

This is because Marijuana is still classified as a Schedule 1 drug, alongside Heroine, Meth, and L-S-D.

Beshear emphasized the need for the drug to be reclassified.

“Listen veterans with PTSD, they deserve relief and they shouldn’t have to forfeit any part of Second Amendment rights or any other rights that they have under Kentucky law or any other state law,” he said.

There was an effort last year to reclassify Marijuana after president Joe Biden pardoned thousands for low level cannabis offenses.

However, those efforts seemed to have stalled.
