CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Just weeks after medical marijuana became legal in Kentucky, new bills in the General Assembly aim to allow residents to buy and grow small amounts of recreational marijuana.

Two of these bills are proposed as constitutional amendments, which would give voters the opportunity to decide in the next general election in 2026.

If passed, the legislation would permit individuals aged 21 and older to possess, use, buy, or sell one ounce or less of cannabis. The measures have been introduced by Democratic lawmakers.

However, with Republicans holding a supermajority in both the House and Senate, the legislation would require significant Republican support to pass.
