The 2025 state legislative season is upon us and NORML is working to ensure that your voice is heard in statehouses nationwide.

We are supporting numerous bills that seek to expand the freedoms and liberties of responsible cannabis consumers. These include bills ending workplace discrimination for those who consume cannabis while away from the job, providing home cultivation rights, expanding expungement relief, strengthening parental rights, and ending marijuana possession arrests.

We are also fighting back against a flurry of legislative efforts that seek to roll back many of our hard-fought victories. For example, we are pushing back against proposed THC potency limits in New York and Connecticut, the establishment of mandatory fines for minor marijuana offenders in Idaho, the enactment of unscientific per se THC limits in Kentucky, and efforts to repeal patients’ access to medical cannabis in Nebraska and South Dakota.

In just the past few days, NORML has successfully shepherded legislation in Maryland ending pre-employment marijuana testing for hundreds of public employees. In Virginia, NORML successfully defeated legislation that sought to provide police the ability to search motorists’ vehicles simply based on the odor of marijuana. NORML also successfully opposed a separate bill that threatened to allow employers to impose non-scientific cannabis “impairment” standards in the workplace.

But we can’t do this critical work alone. We need your help. Specifically, we need you to visit NORML’s Take Action Center and message your state lawmakers for or against pending legislation. We also depend on your generous financial support to provide the necessary resources to remain effective.

While there are several groups and lobbyists representing the interests of the commercial cannabis industry, only NORML is out there every day representing you. Please help us continue standing up for your interests. Your support ensures that cannabis consumers have a seat at the table in statehouses across America.
