JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Arkansans bought more medical marijuana in 2024, but sales did not reach an all-time high.
According to a news release from the Arkansas Department of Financial and Administration, the state sold $275.9 million of medical marijuana, down from the record $283 million set in 2023.
However, the state’s 37 dispensaries sold 75,598 pounds of medical marijuana in 2024, compared to 62,227 pounds sold in 2023.
Lower prices were cited as the reason for the increase in sales.
State tax revenue from medical marijuana topped $31 million in 2024.
The 6.5% state sales tax generated $15.97 million, while the 4% privilege tax generated $15.19 million.
Medical marijuana sales in December totaled $24 million with 6,721 pounds sold.
