LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – An Omaha woman was charged after allegedly sneaking synthetic marijuana into the Reception and Treatment Center in Lincoln for an inmate back in December of 2023.
Rosa Francia, 25, was charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute and one count of unlawful acts by any person.
On Dec. 27, 2023, Francia entered the RTC to visit inmate Juan Salazar. Francia’s belongings were put through an x-ray machine and Salazar was searched before entering the visitation room. No contraband was found on either person.
According to the arrest affidavit, an NDCS analyst monitoring the surveillance camera observed Francia reaching for her waistband and then concealing an item under candy and a bowl on a tray. Francia then placed the tray in front of Salazar and he retrieved the item and concealed it in his shirt sleeve, a state patrol investigator wrote.
Near the end of visitation, Salazar was placed into dry cell status and a safety search was conducted by NDCS staff. According to the affidavit, during the search, Salazar was seen attempting to conceal the item, and attempted to place it in his rectum.
The evidence was taken to Nebraska State Patrol headquarters for a drug analysis. Police state that on Feb. 16, 2024, investigators conducted a consensual interview with Francia at her place of work in La Vista. During the interview, Francia stated that the item was delivered to her a few days prior to her visit with Salazar.
Investigators received the results of the evidence on May 24, 2024. The affidavit states that the item was proven to be synthetic cannabinoids.
Francia’s bond is set at 10% of $50,000 and her next hearing will take place on March 5.
