STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Authorities allege that a trail of smoke and a covered license plate led cops to discovering a stash of cocaine in one Staten Islander’s car.

Christian Rodriguez of Brook Street in Tompkinsville was behind the wheel of a white 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee with an “obstructed license plate” in the 900 block of Castleton Avenue near North Burgher Avenue on Jan. 18 at about 7:30 p.m., according to the criminal complaint and police.

The criminal complaint alleges that an officer “smelled an odor of marijuana” and saw “a billow of smoke” emanating from the Jeep.
