A new crime unit in Bristol arrested a man on Monday during its first day of operation after reportedly finding him with cocaine and marijuana.

The arrest came after authorities spotted a vehicle that was involved in a previous incident when the driver refused to stop, according to Lt. Eric Hanson of the Bristol Police Department.

After finding the vehicle, officers with the department’s Crime Suppression Unit encountered 26-year-old Coron Burrell of New Britain inside, Hanson said. He was reportedly found with 3.3 pounds of marijuana in the car that was packaged for sale and estimated to be worth about $8,000, 1.8 grams of cocaine and more than $700, according to Hanson.

Burrell was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance and misuse of plates. He is scheduled to appear in New Britain Court next month.

According to Hanson, the newly formed Crime Suppression Unit made the arrest on the first day that it was operational.
