Jack Fitzpatrick pleaded guilty to one charge of being concerned in the supply of cannabis when he appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

The drug dealer was caught out at his home on East Broomlands on August 25 last year after police attended the address on a separate matter.

Fitzpatrick was found lying on a bed within and was the sole occupant of the property.

Prosecutor Alasdair Millar told the court that officers noticed three large vacuum-sealed bags within – each containing “green herbal material”.

Police believed this was consistent with the 23-year-old being concerned in the supplying of controlled drugs.

Cops then removed Fitzpatrick from the property before taking him to Saltcoats police office.

A warrant was then obtained for a full search of the address.

Officers later recovered the three bags previously found, with Fitzpatrick’s fingerprints on each. The contents were later confirmed to be cannabis.

While investigating further, more items consistent with the onward sale of drugs were seized, including operational scales, self-seal bags and a metal safe.

Fitzpatrick refused to provide the code for the safe – which was locked.

After police gained entry to it, numerous bags – each marked with a weight – of “green herbal material” were recovered within. Further analysis later confirmed the material to be cannabis.

The total value of the drugs recovered was £4,350.

Police opinion was that the quantity was excessive for personal use and consistent with possessing for onward sale when considered alongside other items found.

Defending, solicitor Graeme Cunningham asked that background reports be prepared before a final disposal was passed.

Sheriff Principal Sean Murphy KC agreed to defer sentence for reports until next month, with the offender allowed to remain at liberty for the time being.

He added: “This is a serious matter because it is quite a quantity of cannabis.

“It is in your best interests to comply with social work in preparing these reports.”
