Dumas, Ark. (KATV) — A deputy of the Desha County Sheriff’s Office ordered a traffic stop on a white 2016 GMC truck, that was heading northbound along U.S. Highway 65 in Dumas on February 22.
The vehicle was traveling 75 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone, prompting the traffic stop.
According to DCSO, the driver was identified as Devuntra Sanders, 31, of Eudora.
While approaching the driver’s window, Deputy Womack smelled a strong odor of Marijuana.
Sanders admitted to having weed, and that it was sitting in the center console, but nothing else.
When Deputy Wayne Green made her way to the scene, Deputy Womack started a search of the vehicle.
Deputies discovered Marijuana, 8 prescription pill bottles that had Promethazine weighing 41 oz collectively, 85 Xanax pills, 9 Arizona tea cans with 3.5 grams of Marijuana buds, and 55 Oxycodone pills.
None of these recovered drugs were prescribed to Sanders.
Deputy Womack arrested Sanders and placed him in the Dumas City Jail where he was booked on two counts of Possession of a Schedule 1 or 2 Controlled Substance with Purpose to Deliver, three counts of Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance with Purpose to Deliver, and Speeding.
DCSO also seized the 2016 GMC Truck and $775 in cash.
The 10th Judicial District Drug Task Force also responded to the scene and will be involved in the drug investigation.
