BOISE, Idaho — Governor Brad Little has signed a bill into law that establishes a minimum fine for misdemeanor marijuana possession in Idaho.

House Bill 7 sets a fine of $300 for individuals found with three ounces or less of marijuana. Possession of more than three ounces remains classified as a felony.

The bill’s sponsor Rep. Bruce Skaug of Nampa noted that there was previously no baseline fine for this type of marijuana possession in the state, with all judges imposing different fines.

The law signed by the governor on Monday, Feb. 24th is set to take effect on July 1.
