A routine traffic stop on Friday led to a significant drug bust when Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies pulled over a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van near Red Rock Blvd for traffic-related offenses.

The driver, identified as Kings Ojata, was found with a van full of marijuana after deputies detected a strong odor of the substance emanating from the vehicle.

Upon searching the van, deputies discovered 21 large cardboard boxes in the cargo area, each containing 10 smaller vacuum-sealed boxes. Further investigation revealed the boxes were filled with pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes.

The total weight of the marijuana was 593 pounds, with an estimated street value of approximately $889,500.

The van and its contents were transported to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office to be booked into evidence.

Ojata was subsequently booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on the charge of trafficking marijuana, a Category C felony, for possessing between 50 and 1,000 pounds of the substance.
