A suspect nabbed with a felony amount of marijuana told police he was on his way to smoke it with his brother.
Darrion Xavier Thomas, 29, of Maitland, was at the wheel of a red 2015 Hyundai Sonata with a temporary tag parked shortly before midnight Monday at the 7-Eleven at the Beaumont development on County Road 466A when an officer walked by the vehicle and “smelled a strong odor” of marijuana, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. A traffic stop was initiated nearby.
An officer spotted “roaches” of marijuana in the vehicle. When Thomas was asked if he had any other marijuana, he pointed toward the glove box. A Ziploc bag was found and it contained 24.48 grams of marijuana.
A woman who lives at the Lake Sumter Apartments on County Road 466 was in the vehicle with Thomas. He said the bag of marijuana was his and said he was on his way to his “brother’s house to smoke it,” the report said.
Thomas was arrested on a felony charge of marijuana. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $2,500 bond.
