The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance that would allow cannabis lounges at existing dispensaries.
The ordinance was approved 3-2 on Tuesday. A second reading and final adoption will be held on March 25, 2025.

Lounge supporters say the new law is a huge win for tourists and renters. Opponents of the lounges argue that creating more cannabis retail locations will normalize cannabis use and pose potential health risks from secondhand smoke.
A vote for cannabis farm sales and consumption was pushed back at the same meeting on Tuesday.
