OILTON, OKLA (KTUL) — The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics (OBN) executed a search warrant at a farm in Oilton, seizing 22,000 marijuana plants and nearly 650 pounds of processed marijuana, with an estimated street value of over $60 million.
The farm was operating under a fraudulent ownership scheme, violating state regulations that require 75% of marijuana businesses to be owned by a local resident for at least two years.
Mark Woodward, the Public Information Officer for the OBN, explained the situation:
Steven Bradley Hewitt was arrested and booked on multiple charges, including the manufacture and trafficking of controlled dangerous substances and furnishing false information in an application required under the Controlled Dangerous Substance Act.
Hewitt is scheduled for a bond hearing tomorrow, and the OBN indicated that more charges could be filed against other individuals as the investigation continues.
Additionally, 12 Chinese workers were detained at the farm, with four currently held on ICE detainers.
The OBN has been actively shutting down illegal operations, having closed nearly 6,000 farms involved in criminal activities or operating under fraudulent medical marijuana licenses over the past four years.
Woodward emphasized the broader implications of these operations:
According to Woodward, the investigation is still in its early stages, with much more to uncover.
