Two people were arrested recently in Kaplan on various drugs charges related to the possession of more than 1,000 grams of suspected marijuana, more than 200 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a 9mm handgun.
Chaquam Williams, 24, was found hiding under a bed inside a residence in the 1100 block of 11th Street in Kaplan on March 10 when the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force executed a seach warrant, according to a press release by Sheriff Eddie Langlinais.
Mary Antoine, 28, arrived while police searched the residence and claimed ownership of the home, he wrote.
Both were placed under arrest in connection with the narcotics police found.
Williams, according to Langlinais, was charged with possession of Schedule II drugs (Hydrocodone); possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drugs (marijuana); possession with intent to distribute Schedule II drugs (methamphetamine); possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of controlled dangerous substances in a drug-free zone; obstruction of justice; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance; and possession or dealing in unregistered or illegally transferred weapons.
Antoine, the release states, was charged with possession of Schedule IV drugs (Alprazolam); possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drugs (marijuana); possession with intent to distribute Schedule II drugs (methamphetamine); possession of drug paraphernalia; transactions involving drug proceeds; and possession of control dangerous substance in a drug-free zone.
Agents found inside the residence about 1,034 grams of suspected marijuana; about 204 grams of suspected methamphetamine; a loaded 9mm Glock handgun with a full-auto switch installed; about $5,000 in U.S. currency; and various narcotics paraphernalia.
