Bhopal:Bhopal Crime Branchon Saturday claimed to have arrested four drug peddlers involved in the smuggling and sale of ganja (cannabis). The accused were caught red-handed with 15.160 kg of ganja, worth around Rs 4 lakh, which they brought from Odisha to sell in Bhopal.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team, led by Crime Branch Inspector Ashok Maravi, was deployed to monitor and nab drug traffickers.
According to police, a reliable informant alerted the Crime Branch team that four suspicious men were sitting near a tree in front of a private bank in MP Nagar Zone-1 with plastic bags containing ganja. The informant revealed that the accused were waiting for buyers and would dispose of the drugs if not nabbed immediately.
When nabbed and identified, the substance was confirmed to be illegal ganja, and the suspects also admitted to possessing and smuggling it.
The arrested accused were identified as Arjun Kuchbandiya, 19, from Harda, Suraj Kuchbandiya, 35, from Obedullaganj, Laxman Kuchbandiya, 25, from Harda, and Narmada Kahar alias Chhote, 27, from Obedullaganj. A case was registered against them under theNDPS Act.
Further investigations revealed that one of the accused, Arjun Kuchbandiya, had a previous criminal record at Civil Line police station in Harda. The remaining three suspects were also being screened for any past criminal records. Further probe is on.
