MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon man will spend the next 10 years behind bars after pleading guilty to trafficking marijuana and multiple related charges following a three-year crime spree.

On Thursday, Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney Anita Howard announced that 25-year-old Jaquez Devontae Durham was sentenced to 20 years, with 10 to serve in prison. Durham pleaded guilty to six separate indictments, including trafficking marijuana, multiple counts of possession with intent to distribute, and two counts of aggravated assault on other inmates while in the Bibb County Jail.

“This case demonstrates our Office’s commitment to getting drug dealers off the street and holding repeat offenders accountable with prison time and the forfeiture of assets acquired through this illegal activity including cars and money,” Howard said.

Durham’s criminal activity dates back to November 2021, when officers found individually packaged marijuana and a firearm in his possession. In May 2022, investigators searched his home and vehicles, seizing roughly 12 pounds of marijuana, a firearm, and cash. Through a legal forfeiture process, the District Attorney’s Office obtained $33,075 in cash and a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass for use by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Durham was arrested again in June 2023 with more marijuana and another firearm. In May 2024, he was stopped for a seatbelt violation, which led to the discovery of additional marijuana and a firearm. While in custody, Durham was charged with assaulting two other inmates.

In total, lab testing by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that Durham was responsible for more than 13 pounds of marijuana seized between 2021 and 2024.
