PERRYSBURG, Ohio — Perrysburg City Council voted to extend the current moratorium on marijuana dispensaries in the city at Tuesday night’s meeting.
The 5-2 vote means the current moratorium, which is set to expire on May 7, is now extended until Oct. 8 of this year.
Tim McCarthy, council member and chairman of the planning and zoning committee, says the extension gives council time to talk about the potential of allowing only medical marijuana dispensaries in the city.
“There was some interest among some council members, myself included, to at least look into the possibility of retail dispensaries that are limited to medical marijuana only,” McCarthy said. “The additional extension of the moratorium gives us time to explore that potential option and then have it reviewed by all the necessary reviewing bodies.”
This vote comes after council rejected three ordinances that would allow dispensaries within city limits with a 4-3 vote on April 1.
McCarthy says council has received a lot of community feedback regarding dispensaries in Perrysburg.
“I’m not saying there’s a unanimous opinion either way on this issue,” McCarthy said. “Some would allow dispensaries in town, others would not. We’ve had a lot of public input that goes both ways.”
