MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – This week, Alabama State University is expanding its cannabis education efforts with three additional certification programs.

The HBCU welcomed five programs in August of 2024.

“We probably receive more calls about our cannabis program than any other program we are running,” said ASU Continuing Education Director Mia Williams.

Max Simon, CEO of the company who provides the program says these classes will teach students online how to grow, sell and distribute cannabis products.

“You are seeing that this product people agree is safer and healthier than alcohol,” Simon.

The program is offered in 60 schools in 27 states. ASU is the first HBCU to offer the program in Alabama.
