NORWALK, Conn. — The Norwalk Police Department reports its officers arrested a man from New York Tuesday at the Clever Smoke Shop for selling marijuana and cannabis products without a license to do so.
Nileshkumar Patel, 37, of Freeport, N.Y. was charged with possession of greater than one kilogram of marijuana product and possession with intent to sell over one kilogram of marijuana product.
The Norwalk Police Department’s Special Services Division served a search warrant at the business on New Canaan Avenue after an ongoing investigation into city smoke shops that have been illegally selling marijuana and cannabis products.
In Connecticut, it is against the law to sell products containing a total THC concentration greater than 0.3% without a state-issued license. It is also forbidden for a business that is not a licensed dispensary to sell pure marijuana.
While searching the Clever Smoke Shop, police reportedly found a variety of pre-wrapped marijuana cigarettes, gummies and edibles and vapes in a storage cabinet concealed by beverage boxes. The marijuana items were packaged to sell, police said.
The gummies that were discovered exceeded the legal amount of THC allowed of one milligram, and officers seized just over $7,000 in cash, according to police.

Police gave a total summary of the items seized, including 287 pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes, 50 marijuana flower vape pouches, 215 illegal vape pen products, 49 illegal THC edible products and 38.6 pounds of packaged marijuana product.
Norwalk police say that Patel’s bond was set at $2,500. His court date is scheduled for May 6.
