OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – After already showing overwhelming support for medical marijuana, Nebraska voters will now have a chance to speak face-to-face with state lawmakers about the issue.

Three Nebraska state senators — Rick Holdcroft, John Cavanaugh and Ben Hansen — will be holding three public meetings in the coming days to discuss the implementation of medical marijuana.

The announcement comes less than two weeks after the bill that would have officially legalized and regulated medical cannabis in Nebraska failed to make it out of the General Affairs Committee.

Sen. Holdcroft and Sen. Cavanaugh serve as chair and vice-chair of that committee, respectively, while Sen. Hansen is the one who introduced the bill, LB 677.

The public forums will allow Nebraskans to receive updates on medical marijuana legislation and express their opinions on the matter. Everyone is welcome to speak, but meetings are limited to two hours.

Even after 70 percent of voters cast their ballots in favor of the measure during November’s general election, the legalization and subsequent regulation of medical marijuana has faced pushback from some of Nebraska’s highest-ranking elected officials, including Gov.
